When does bluffing start?

My little lady is 12 week in 2 days, is this too early to start the bluffing stage? She seems quite happy, then she will lunge at you with beak open. She does not bite though. She does not do this every time. Just curious if it is bluffing or her just learning about us.

I want to know weather an approximately 1 month and 20 days old Indian ring neck parrot can molt? is it natural at this small age?? I have two baby parrots of same age one male and the other one is female and they are only one n half months old. While the female one shows feather shedding from last 12 days and is not able to fly. On the other hand male baby parrot had not shown shedding of a single feather and can fly very efficiently. She is shedding single feather every day. Please suggest me what should I do?

Is an irn right for me?

I've had my budgies for a couple years now, and ever since the loss of one of my pets, I've felt like something's missing. I don't feel complete. I've been thinking of adding to the flock, and have been searching endlessly for the right parrot for me. I really do think that an irn's needs are something I can handle, but I would like some opinions from experienced owners.

Here's what I can offer to an irn:

2 hours each day on weekdays, 7 hours on weekends.
I have enough money for the bird and the cage, and an additional $100 for toys and food.
Im available to fresh fruits and vegetables, along with pellets and seeds.
I live with my parents, and siblings, who all love my current bird.
I live in the suburbs, so noise isn't an issue.

My only concern is that I'm not ready for an irn, as I have never gotten the chance to interact with one. As said before, I have tamed budgies, and maintained a good relationship. :)

Introducing Pax

Just wanted to take the time to introduce our newly adopted fid, Pax the Indian Ringneck, aka Paximum. Pax is a 9 month old green IRN we adopted from a local bird sanctuary. He is very shy but loud at the moment, and is extremely active. He/she has not been sexed yet, but I look forward to helping him/her come out of his/her shell and learn to be a family bird! He's very cage-shy, and right now prefers to stay in his/her cage playing with toys rather than coming out to be social.

Question for IRN vets....

Good afternoon,

So a new challenge has arisen the past 4 days. Indigo is still awesome he loves playing with the kids, however as far as me he has decided that I am not allowed to pick him up. Every time I try to attempt to make him step up he halls boogie. Any training tips? Indigo allows the girls to pick him up using the step up command with no problem. I'm confused, but more so when I leave the house he needs to be in his cage and not left unattended it took about 30 minutes to wear him down so I could pick him up. I haven't been chasing him with dowls or any other objects. So I get a loud squawk and a nip or two instead, I have not backed down and do not make any types of noises when he does these things. :(

Tiny squeek

My 13 wk old lady gives my husband this little tiny squeak every time he talks to her. she opens her beak big and gives a short tiny squeak. She does not do it to anyone else. Has anyone else experienced something similar? Is this a good thing?

A few health questions

Hello!

I have a 5 week old indian ringneck parrot and I keep him at night in a tall box with sawdust from the pet store at the bottom of it.

I recently saw that he is nibbling the sawdust, maybe even swallowing small pieces of it in the process, and I wanted to ask you if this would affect him...

Other than that, I took him from a breeder a week ago which told me to feed him twice a day 30ml baby bird mix each time.

Yesterday I took him to a vet because he sneezed a few times (max 6 times in a day) and wanted to make sure that he isn't sick. The vet told me that he is fine (listened to his chest, which wasn't buzzing) and he put a small drop of deparasitation formula on the back of his neck and gave me some antibiotics "just to make sure" that he will be well in the following days. They need to be mixed with the formula as I understood, but I wanted to ask you first if any of you have had these experiences (with the sawdust eating, feeding twice a day those huge doses - instead of 3 or 4 smaller ones - sneezing without any apparent reason and antibiotics without him being actually sick).

Thanks for your time and hope to hear from you soon!

We have had Jojo for about 6 months now, he is settled in his cage well & has started playing with toys.

We can go in his cage to change food/water and he wont move off his swing.

We have started sitting next to his treat bowl & adding treats to try and get him to take them whilst we are next to his cage.

We are also sitting next to his cage with food on our hands for him to come & get some.

Is there anything else we should be doing?

I understand this is going to take a while, it just feels like we are doing this for weeks on end & getting no where.

Jasper Things (And He's Bluffing)

Hello everyone,
Jasper has started bluffing (start of last week). he's not all that bad, compared to what I've read (and seen). He's only bitten me 3 or 4 times so far. I've been extra careful in reading his body language, and most of the time been able to distract him from biting me, or been able to put him down somewhere (still close to me) of course he gets treats for not biting. He's pretty well trained not to bite, usually he just moves away or put fingers in his beak and lightly presses down, (no pain), if he doesn't push the finger away.

Jasper also came to class with me (we have cages, pens, ect - for a range of different animals) it was about 3 weeks ago. I spent the 4 weeks prior getting him used to the travel crate (a cat carrier, or whatever it's called - i found 3 of the same all called different things). He was a little nervous to begin with (as expected) but settled down after a few minutes. he was a bit louder than usual (not sure if it was because there were lots of new people, it was a new place, or something else entirely different (he got plenty of treats from everyone though).

I've also been working with him when it comes to my brother (he really doesn't like him... not sure why as he's fine with my dad, step-brother and friends) but tonight my brother was playing with him with one of the bird toys (without getting bitten) and because Jasper was so good, I got my brother to give him some treats (brother thought giving the treat was pointless).

I love how he's completely into everything I do (it's one of the things I love about IRN's... well mine anyway). like tonight he watched me drink from a water bottle, flew over, tried to open it (had a bit of a tantrum because he couldn't) and demanded I open it so he can drink from it (only water). it made my whole day! :D He's super active (since he was a baby) which is great (but makes it a little hard taking photo's because when he see's the camera/phone he's all over it, or trying to be)

When he went in the travel crate (before leaving)

Coming home :D

My IRN is scared of us

Hi guys,

I've had Blu my IRN (about 3 months old?) for a couple weeks now and he/she was terrified even if we came near his cage. Was just thrashing around, slowly it came to a point where he climbed out of his cage on his own and sat on top of his cage and started eating from my hand when approached very slowly. But we clipped his wings as he would keep flying into things out of fear of us. Now he is again acting a bit scared and I feel like his confidence has gone down again. He still quickly comes and eats from my hand through the cage bars but I'm worried he'll turn wild again? Is this normal? I try to speak to him everyday.

My IRN real curious in my alex

My new IRN Blu seems to be stuck to the corner of the cage that is closest to my Alex's cage and he is like trying so hard to get through the cage bars to get to him I think? Is this a good sign? Can I try introducing them outside their cages? I'm kinda nervous in case Alex or Blu attacks each other. The first time they met Blu was in his cage and Alex jumped from me onto his cage and Alex tried to put his beak through the bars and Blu tried to come close to him and I was afraid it would result in injury. After that when Alex once again jumped on his cage, Blu bit his leg and Alex ran. So after 2 weeks now I see Blu real real interested in getting near Alex. Any advice?

Indian or African Ringneck?

paxwell_zpsbcqqcf3r.jpg Photo by patrickm510 | Photobucket

So we got Pax about a month ago and we assume him to be between 7 and 10 months of age. The picture above is one of the best we have of him and I'm wondering if anyone can help distinguish if he is an African or Indian ringneck, and what differences there might be. At his age, is there any distinct way to tell if he will be male or female? We would love him to grow a pretty ring but a girl is just fine too.

Thanks for any help.

The past few days Rosie has become super social. She is 31/2 months old. She wants on me all the time. she sits on me and tweets. I walk past her playgym and she stretches her neck for me. If I stand close enough she will grab my shirt and climb on.
Who said Ringnecks were hand off birds? lol:blue2::blue2:

Hello everyone,
Today I power washed Jasper's cage. He was not especially impressed with being put into a smaller cage, he was sitting on the side of the cage intently watching me clean is big cage
He is moutling (has been for a while - he only loses 3 or 4 feathers at a time) and he spent almost 2 hours cuddled up to my neck (or getting head scratches :D
Also the aviator harness I ordered should be here within 5 days :D
And photo's (they may be bad quality)

As soon as he went in the temporary cage

Cuddling :D

The last photo he realized I was talking photo's of him and tried to disappear :)
