Hi everyone.
Im just looking for a second opinions on my indian ringnecks problems. Recently we took Leo to the vet as he was pulling his feathers out and we thought it was mites. The vet told us it wasnt mites and that he has strained kidneys and that his gland was blocked from a build up for fat from his diet. He unblocked the fat and gave us medication for his. He gave us metacam which caused him to severely bleed in his poos. We took him back and he said that we have to do all these other tests to see what caused the bleeding at this point i was suspicious of the dosage of the metacam we had been giving him which was 0.08mls twice daily. Another vet told us it shouldve only been 0.4mls. After we stopped the metacam he was fine again!
My vet has told us that Leo has strained kidneys from his current diet which seems likely as he mainly eats parrot mix and only picks out the sunflower seeds. Ive bought pallets now but he isn't having a bar of it! I also give him lots of green veges etc. Any suggestions on how to get him to move on from seeds to pallets. My delema is that my vet told me it has to be a slow and subtle change to his new diet but I'm concerned that if he keeps eating sunflower seeds then his gland on his back will block up again caused from the fats in the seeds.
Also at the moment he is still plucking his feathers out violently
Thanks everyone in advanced!
